The Haute Route

Grimentz is famous for it's proximity to the Haute Route - perhaps the most famous ski tour in the world.

It is a classic tour through the heart of the Western Alps and some of the stunning alpine scenery in the world.  First completed in 1860, this high-level mountain traverse covers over 75 miles of alpine terrain, crosses over 12 different glacier systems, and connects the two major mountain centres - Chamonix in France and Zermatt in Switzerland.

The route can be skied by advanced skiers capable of skiing off piste in all snow conditions or walked over 7 days sleeping in mountain huts. There are low level variations which does not involve crossing any glaciers and mainly uses hotels in villages on the route.

Grimentz and Val d´Anniviers also provide access to a second shorter high mountain route - the Haute Route Imperiale which starts at Bella Tola above St. Luc and follows a route above Zinal to the Matterhorn and Zermatt taking 5 days to complete, with overnight accommodation in mountain huts.
