Grimentz in winter! Grimentz's discovery as a base for winter and summer alpine holidays is very recent and great efforts have been made to preserve its local customs and picturesque buildings, particularly in the old village which is traffic free. Even the new properties which have been developed in recent years have been strictly controlled to ensure that they are in keeping with the character of the original buildings.
Grimentz and the other villages in Val d´Anniviers have focused on attracting independent families with few, if any, major holiday or chalet companies using the area as a base. As a result the atmosphere is always friendly and relaxed, but with many activities on offer.
The facilities in the village have been developed in response to the growing number of visitors from all over Europe, especially Britain. These include:
- Six hotels each with comfortable restaurants and bars plus a new Après Ski Bar at the bottom of the Bendolla piste;
- Indoor swimming pool, tennis, mini golf, ice rink, football area;
- Two supermarkets, two bakeries and a meat/fish shop;
- Three sports shops with rental services for skis, snowboards and mountain bikes;
- Many other services including garage, post office, hairdresser and gift shops.
